Meet Our Directors
Wendy Kaufman (on right) has a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois. In addition, she holds a Masters Degree in Education from National-Louis University. She worked as a therapeutic recreation specialist for eight years, planning and implementing activity groups for children and adults. Since 2009, Wendy has been working as an instructional assistant in Northbrook’s District 27. Wendy was instrumental in writing the curriculum for Amazing Minds and developing the program. She has been working as an Amazing Minds classroom teacher since its inception in 2001.
Lisa Weiss (on left) has a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology and a Minor degree in French from the University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois. In addition, she holds a law degree from Northwestern University. Lisa worked as an attorney in Chicago for seven years. She has been working as an Amazing Minds classroom teacher and director since its inception in 2001. Lisa has also held positions within her childrens’ school in Northbrook as a member of the Education Foundation and a caucus member for the school board.
Both Wendy and Lisa feel strongly about maintaining the quality of the Amazing Minds curriculum and keeping it current. Both directors continue to teach the program in order to stay in tune with the after school enrichment environment and the educational needs of students and parents alike.
